RBA Bond-Buying Thu Focused on Short End

The Reserve Bank of Australia has announced bond-buying for the fifth consecutive day but in a surprise move the purchases on Thursday are all aimed at the short end of the curve.

The RBA is buying A$3 billion of government bonds in the May 2021 to April 2024 maturity.

It has nominated five government bonds for purchase.

--5.75% May 2021
--2.0% December 2021
--5.75% July 2022
--2.25% November 2022
--5.5% April 2023
--2.75% April 2024

On Wednesday, the RBA bought semi-government bonds for a total of A$2.0 billion.
