RBA Buys Entire A$3B Bonds Thu But Skips 2024 Bond

By Sophia Rodrigues

The Reserve Bank of Australia bought entire A$3 billion of government bonds at the auction Thursday but purchased five out of the six bonds it offered to buy.

The RBA didn’t buy any April 2024 bond.

The RBA also bought a disproportionately higher amount of the shortest maturity security, buying A$1.194 billion of the April 2021 bonds at a cut-off yield of 0.2600% in an attempt to push down the yield. Yet the yield on the bond was higher than the December 2021.

The rest of the purchases were:

--A$146 million of 2% December 2021 bond at a cut-off yield of 0.2525%.
--A$541 million of 5.75% July 2022 bond at a cut-off yield of 0.2700%
--A$226 million of 2.25% November 2022 at a cut-off yield of 0.2650%
--A$893 million of 5.5% April 2023 bond at a cut-off yield of 0.2775%.
