There is greater interest in the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook this year given the slow pace of government borrowing so far this year, and uncertainty about what the fiscal position might look like by the end of the fiscal year.

Treasury has confirmed the MYEFO will be published on Thursday, December 16.

Commonwealth Bank expects the underlying budget deficit for 2021-211 to show an improvement to A$76 billion deficit from A$107 billion forecast at the May budget. ANZ expects an improvement of A$10 billion which translates to deficit of around A$97 billion while Westpac expects forecast of worsening deficit of A$117 billion.
