The RBA is buying A$500 million of April 2023 government bonds as part of its bond-buying program which it resumed Wednesday after a gap of three months. The 5.50% April 2023 is considered as the benchmark 3-year bond and the aim of RBA buying is to ensure the bond trades around its 0.25% target.

The A$500 million is likely to disappoint market who were expecting the RBA to undertake buying of at least double the amount, and of more than one bond line.
